The Battle of Dukla Pass was a massive battle that occurred in Slovakia from September 8th to October 25th 1944. It was officially known as the "Carpathian Operation" by the battle commanders. Casualties were immense, - over 138,000 dead in 50 days

"On October 25th, the rainfall which had impeded the Allied advance began to subside. At 10 a.m. the Soviet side began and 80 minute artillery barrage and air attacks. This followed by advance of the 305th Soviet Rifle Division and the 12th Guards Tank Brigade. Advancing through a narrow mountain valley, they were unable to develop any coordinated line. Yet they entered the village of Nizna Pisana and engaged the German Mark IV tanks successfully. Breaking the enemy's resistance, the 12th Guards Tank Brigade moved 1.5 kilometers south of the village.
Here it came up against the German artillery and the land mines. When night fell, the illumination of the sky caused by German artillery fire enabled Soviet engineers to destroy the mines planted in the road. The advancing Soviet infantry captured two German artillery pieces and five tanks. On the morning of the 26th, Soviet aircraft struck hard at the enemy's artillery and mine battalions. Soviet infantry and tanks advanced once again. Yet in the area between the villages of Kapisova and Dobroslava the Germans were particularly well entrenched. Their artillery batteries hurtled an estimated 75,000 shells against the Soviets. Consequently, all the Soviet tanks committed to the Valley of Death were destroyed."

I finally managed to fix the DNS records for carpathiancrosses.com, the reason for the recent downtime. The site is back up and so are the forums, i hope to see some nice discussions going on.
As for the recent state of CC, a conversion of the Arad map to fit CC needs (read: tanks) is being done currently. We hope to post pictures of it soon.

As you may have noticed, our forums had some problems recently. I can only blame myself for not updating the forum software earlier. Not doing this led to some script kiddy taking over the forum and deleting everything.
The forums are now updated so for a while all should be fine. Sorry for the problems.
On a sidenote: The news posted last monday got lost, and unfortunatly the signups are already closed now. But roladder.net is hosting a CC tournament. And even though the teams are setup already, they might practice and causing populated CC servers.

The add-on has been released for a few days now and we have spent quite some time on the servers to see what people thought of our work. We've had some great feedback from the community so far concerning bugs and suggestions, which we will try to include in upcoming patches. Your feedback is still appreciated though, so if you find a bug or have any ideas don't be shy and post them!
We would like to extend a massive thanks to all the people that have downloaded the add-on. The client files have been downloaded over 7000 times and the server files over 400 times, so that deserves a thank you. We would also like to, once again, thank everyone that has been involved with the add-on over the course of the past year and a half.

We would like to once again mention that we are always looking for more beta testers. A totally bug free release is almost impossible, but we would like to make sure that a lot of bugs get squashed in upcoming releases, which is we why we need more testers! Our plan is to release some patches in the upcoming future that not only solve bugs, but also add new functionality. If you're a proficient 3D artist, sound artist, animator, mapper, skinner or any other kind of developer, please don't hesitate to join since we can use all the help we can get to deliver patches and updates as soon as possible!

- Eight new player classes with appropriate gear and uniforms; including the Soviet Black Sea Naval infantry. - A total of 9 new weapons and 2 new tanks. - A detailed mortar crewman - spotter system to facilitate tactical mortar gameplay. - Lots of improvements to the tank system. - Combined arms, tank and infantry only maps (5 in total). - Full support for custom mappers. - Integrated with standard Red Orchestra.
Please be sure to report any bugs or oddities you come across in the appropriate section of our forum! We strive to further improve the add-on, but we cannot do it without the support of the community. If you just want to tell us your opinion, you're more then welcome to join us on our forums too.

Here we are waiting to release our add-on but we're not really waiting, we are fixing the last small bugs (those we were able to find ;) ) and polishing what we can. The add-on will be released to the public on April 11th, but if you're a serveradmin contact us on our forum or via e-mail to get your hands on the serverfiles early. That way we will have enough servers ready in the release weekend. Once installed the server can be switched from normal RO to RO with CC in the WebAdmin panel. Two weeks still is a long time and we're going to make it even harder for you with this list of what you can expect to see Carpathian Crosses.
Carpathian Crosses Beta Feature List:
Playermodels - Soviet Black Sea Naval infantry - Soviet padded jackets - Soviet amoeba variations (standard/uban, hooded and non-hooded) - Romanian standard uniforms (summer) in several variations - Romanian standard uniforms (winter) in several variations - Romanian greatcoats - Romanian mountain divisions - Romanian tankers
Weaponry - Steyr-Hahn 1912 pistol - M95 Steyr-Mannlicher rifle - M95 Steyr-Mannlicher carbine - MP28 SMG - Orita SMG - ZB-30 LMG - RPG-40 AT grenade - Geballte ladung AT grenade - M39 50mm Mortar - and maybe even more..
Vehicles - Renault R35 light cavalry tank - T-26 light tank
Maps -Dofinovka (infantry) -Nalchik (infantry) -Chisinau (tank) -Ardon (combined arms) -Maikop (infantry)
Features - The add-on is implemented as a RO compatible gametype, RO stock and custom maps can be played after CC maps without any action required from the player. - Romanian voice commands, recorded in a professional studio with a native Romanian. - New teamselect menus. - New classes for all sides (e.g. Artillery soldier, Spotter). - Mortars, carryable and deployable everywhere. - New ingame menu for spotters to support the artillery soldiers, similar to the voice commands menu. - The ZB LMG features firing from the hip, iron sights and while being deployed. It also features bashing. - Ladders and climbing animations (players cannot use their weapons on ladders). - Wirecutters to clear routes blocked by barbwire. - Definable ranks for soldiers, changeable per map and class. - A certain chance for romanian soldiers to wear glasses - New DestroyableMesh actors for mappers allowing events to be triggered when being hit hit by certain DamageTypes. - Triggerable objective types (not used on any CC map so far).
Tank improvements The following improvements were made to facilitate a different way of tanking compared to stock RO tanks. - Removed the view shaking for the tank MGs. - Armor values depending on lower armor, upper armor and turret. - Crew can be killed from penetrating shells. - Tanks don't start to burn on overall damage. - Engine hits can cause the engine to start burning. - The possibility to switch off the engine of the CC tanks. - Where applicable: the turret rotation speed is slowed down in case the engine is switched off. This is not relevant for the CC tanks. - Fire from the engine can spread to other areas in the tank like the driver compartment. The sequence and speed are specified per tank. - Switching the engine off reduces the possibility that the fire spreads. - The main gun sights can be shattered when a shell hits the relevant area. - Tanks trigger an event defined in the VehicleFactory when destroyed (usable for mappers).
Since there have been many questions about the integration of CC into RO, we will try to tell a little bit more about it. Like mentioned before you can vote for Carpathian Crosses maps on any server that has our mod installed. Now what if someone without CC joins a server running a non-CC map? The answer is easy, that person would get a 55kB file from the server and can start playing without having to download the entire add-on. We do advise server admins to put a message in the MOTD telling the players where they can download CC, as they would start to download the entire mod as soon as a CC map is voted. We hope you're as excited about the upcoming release as we are. Hope to see you there on the release weekend and hopefull for a long time after it.

It has been a looooong way since the first talk on how to add a mortar to Red Orchestra started. Probably about 2 and a half years ago, even before Carpathian Crosses. Now we are ready to show you what we have got, and, more importantly you will see how it works. We created you a short tutorial video for the M39 50mm mortar. We hope it will answer most of your questions. You may notice it says part I, the next part, part II will cover the spotter side of the mortar. Look for that sometime in the near future.

We promised you guys that we will put out new stuff every week and we try hard to keep the promise. This week we got you a "new" map, which will please especially players who remember it from the mod:
We are talking about Maikop. After we came to know that Greenhell is working on a conversion of the map to Ostfront and after we opened CC to mappers we could convince him to include some of our new toys on the map. Make sure to shoot enemies running around with binocs and to get cover when you hear a distant "ooomph". Also, dont be too sure that the wooden bunkers provide that cover for too long...
And well, no news without pics, so here we go:

We would also like to send our best wishes out to the team behind Mare Nostrum for their imminent release tomorrow. They released a list of items included in the Open Beta and to get your expectations right, make sure to head to their page to read their release notes.

Yes, you read it right. Carpathian Crosses is coming to you. We've set our release date to April of 2008, by which you will be able to enjoy Carpathian Crosses for yourself instead of only seeing the pictures. You have to wait a little longer, but we will make sure that the waiting will be as comfortable as possible. We will try to supply you with new media regularly until the actual release date has arrived. For starters you can check out this movie of some of the maps that will be in Carpathian Crosses! We've uploaded both a high and a low resolution version. The low resolution video will play on any standard player, but the real die hards check out the high resolution video, which can be watched with for example VLC Media Player. So pick a host below and enjoy!

Carpathian Crosses is getting closer to a release every day. The last content is being added and bugs are being squashed. Recently the question came up if Carpathian Crosses content will be available for custom mappers to use. The answer is YES! We are even willing to go a step further and are going to offer interested custom mappers early access to the new toys.
What you need to do to get in: - Write a PM to worluk or post in the application forum as custom mapper. - Sign the NDA.
What you will get in return: - Access to the current CC build. - Help where we can if something goes wrong or small changes where needed. - A testing team helping you to get the best out of your map.
Of course you can create preview threads as you usually do with screenshots showing off your work and asking for input. So if you're willing to take a shot at making a map using the assets we've shown so far, hop by our forums and leave a message!

A new year, so time for some more media. A lot of talk was going on whether or not we would include the Czech made Mauser. The answer? We do. The vz. 24 rifle was designed in Czechoslovakia shortly after WWI. The "vz." designation is an abbreviation for vzor, which translates to model and the number 24 represents the year of the design, 1924. Enough babbling though, let's move on to the screenshots.

Some might still remember our need for faces last year and some of the contributors might wonder what happened with those pictures. First of all a big thanks goes out to the people that sent in their faces. Some of them have actually made it into the game already, which you can see below. However, the offer to get your face in-game still stands! If you want to make sure your face is showed off here next, make a post in our forums.

Let's move on to the battlefield itself. It is well known that Dr.Guppy doesn't know the word "small". He proved it with Leningrad and proved that again with Ardon. The pictures below only show rather tiny portions of the map, yet they give an idea about the gameplay. The map will be combined arms in several ways, Romanian and German tanks and infantry will fight the Soviets together.

Since the Germans needed something to fight with on Ardon, we we're willing to donate them the German variant of the Pz. 38(t).

Of course, making two Axis troops fight against the Russians means that the Russians could use some extra help. This is provided by the T-26 we've showed you in one of our recent updates. What we haven't shown you yet though, is the interior of the T-26. And that's what you'll see when you check out the screenshot below!

That's it for this update, but don't be afraid, there'll be more to come. We can still use a hand though. So if you're good at modeling, animating or sound editing, we would be more then happy to have you on board. And who knows maybe next update your work will be shown here. If you don't have any experience in any of the previously mentioned areas, you could become a tester. To see how you can sign up, check our forums. Until next time!

First of all, a merry christmas to all of you out there from the Carpathian Crosses Team! We know, we know. It's a little too early for presents, but we have so many it would be too much to hand them out at once. Todays update is a little different from the others, we dont focus on the Romanian army this time, we add to the red army. Let's start off with the highlight of this update: the soviet naval troopers. Most of you probably know pictures of them, but here are our models:

We would like to extend a massive thanks to both andrei313 and Polygon for once again pulling off a huge playermodel update together. They really worked hard to get this all modeled, textured and rigged. Now to see one of their creations on the battlefield. The naval troopers need a place where their black outfits will come in handy. Check out soldiers of the RKKF rushing the beach near Dofinovka:

People that are familiar with Red Orchestra from the mod days will remember our following wardrobe item. It was featured in the mod but didn't make it into Ostfront. That's why we bring it back! It keeps the troops warm in colder times: the padded jacket.

So far we've shown something for the marines and something warm. But what if you want to be really stealthy? Before the war, the Soviets issued camo overalls to certain soldiers. What would be better then to include said camo overall? So check it out:

This wasn't the only variation of this pattern. For urban combat they issued a grey variation.

Check out these shots of the camo versions ingame:

We want to remind you that we are still looking for testers. Just hop over to our applications forum and leave a post there. Stay tuned for another update containing some post-christmas gifts!

This month was our first birthday and if you look back you can see that we've come a long way and we think the road ahead isn't that long. We have all weapons we initially planned in the game, even though there might be some last minute additions. Tanks make good progress as you can see in this update and our testers are having fun with the mortar for quite a while already. For those that think that a picture says more then a thousand words, we will once again please you with some new pictures. As a start we've got something for the bolt rifle lovers ,the Austrian made Mannlicher 95 rifle.

Of course saying we "got the rifle ingame" wouldn't do it justice, there are quite some first and third person animation in the game. Here's a shot of the reload animation. Don't focus too much on the gun or you will miss a glimpse at one of our new maps: Faleshty.
But we didnt forget about the other weapons. The original Romanian designed SMG, the Orita, will be available on Nalchik. As you can see, this gun also made great progress in the animations department.

And after a long wait we are finally able to show you our ZB-30 ingame. One only needs a quick look to see that Polygon skinned this weapon, and he certainly did a great job there.

If you have followed our updates you probably already know whats next. The tanks. You already saw the renders of the R-35, but now you get to see it on the battlefield. Nestor already mentioned some features that make this tiny tank fun to fight with and against in the interview that was recently conducted. The map you see is Chisinau, made by dasKaRma, but enough talking, let's see some pictures.
So far we haven't shown you much entirely new stuff, but of course we don't want to dissappoint you guys in that departmentl. That's why we got you some new Soviet armor. Despite its weak armor it makes a pretty good match for the R35 with its comparably strong cannon. What tank are we talking about here? The Russian T-26 light tank ofcourse!
Renders are always nice, but it becomes really interesting when you want to know how those light tanks look on the battlefield. Well, we can satisfy your curiousity:
Thats it for this time, we hope you enjoyed the show. Like always we want to say that we are still looking for dedicated guys in all fields, be it coders, animators, sound engineers, skinners, modelers or testers. Just head over to our application forum and post a link there.

We could start off by making excuses as to why this update has taken so long, but we figure that no one is even remotely interested in those excuses. What you want to see is new content and we can safely say that we are delivering that to you. Let's start with yet another SMG. In this update, we would like to show you the MP-28. This early war SMG comes with a 32 shot magazine and both a semi automatic and an automatic firingmode. A distinctive feature of this SMG and his predecessor, the MP-18, is the vertical magazine. It was mostly used by the police and SS units in Germany, but it was also widely used in the Romanian army.

To make sure that you don't think we've been doing nothing all this time, we would like to show you one of the reasons that we haven't brought out a new update sooner. We were too busy enjoying all of our content ingame. One can also say that the enjoying part was mostly testing all the new stuff ingame. Ingame you say? Yes, we do have the MP-28 fully functional and ingame, as shown by these screens.

But of course thats not the only thing we have for you. Next up, is the Romanian T-38 perhaps better known as the Pz38(t). When it was phased out by the Wehrmacht, the Romanians received 50 of these tanks around 1943. One might argue that these tanks weren't worth a dime by then, but they put up a good fight during the battles at the Kuban and the defense of the Crimea.

We've already shown you our Soviet anti tank nade, the RPG-40, in a previous update. Let's see what the Axis forces will be using as a counter measure. During the war, soldiers noticed that they needed some more explosive power to take out some of the enemy tanks. What they came up with, was to bundle some Stielhandgranate 39 heads together, put a normal one in the middle and you get the explosive power you need. But don't be afraid, neither the RPG nor the "Geballte Ladung", as this bundled charge was called, will be able to kill tanks the way satchels do in stock RO. It will take a lot of skill and the right placement.

And to top things off, we would like to show you some impressions right off of the Carpathian Crosses battlefield. There are not a lot of people who will spontaneously start to talk about beach landings in the Eastern Front during World War 2, simply because the ones on the coasts of France are so widely known. But that doesn't mean that there weren't any beach landings in the East. Quite the contrary. We will focus on the landing of the 3rd Naval Infantry Brigade near Dofinovka who's mission was to secure the area and stop the artillery from pounding the nearby city of Odessa. The moonlight makes for some interesting fights over the buildings and trenches.

And that's it for now, but if you want to help us moving at a faster speed, head to our application forums. We are still looking for members in every field, this also includes testers. If you want to become a tester or a full time developer, you are more then welcome to visit our forums and make yourself comfortable. We review every application, so don't be scared away if you think you don't have what it takes.

By now, you all should be used to it: a long wait, followed up by a big update. And if we say big, we mean it. The add-on made some huge steps in the last few weeks. Some of the new features made huge progress, the mortars for example, and also some new features that aren't even announced yet. That should get you thinking, shouldn't it. Let's have a look at one of those features. Do you know those pesky barbwires on some maps that stop you from taking the shortest way to an objective? In Carpathian Crosses, we refuse to let that stop people, so we will say "enough with that, give them wirecutters".

Engineers will now be able to cut wires and open up new ways for their team. And before you ask, yes, the most embarrassing thing is to get knocked out with a wirecutter. But wirecutters are not the only thing that are working and in our add-on already. We also have the Steyr 1912 pistol for you, a toploaded pistol, which makes the reload look alike with the one you're used to of a Kar98 for example. It's a 9mm pistol, with a magazine holding 8 rounds.

We would also like to show you our new and improved ZB-30 light machine gun. The one previously shown in the media updates had been suffering from some issues, so parts of it were redone and it has been given a new skin, restarted from scratch. You can't say we don't take realism and detail serious on this gun.

Ofcourse, having new small arms is one thing, but there are also quite some people out there that would prefer the bigger guns. So moving on to the armor part of this update, we bring you the R-35, but this time it has some color on. The R-35 is a French-made infantry support tank, that could carry a two man crew and close to 60 ammunition rounds. They were used in the liberation of Bessarabia and Northern Bucovina and in the siege of Odessa. Even if they enjoyed heavy armour, their low speed and weak gun restricted them to the infantry support role.

Ofcourse, every tank fan would love the opportunity to actually sit inside one of them. In the case of the Renault R-35, we bring you the closest you can get to that goal. We bring you the driver interior of the Renault R-35, and we made sure that every dial, every lever and every other detail is accounted for.

So now we've had new small arms and new armor, what are we missing here? How about a map to actually use those things on. That map is Chisinau. At the beginning of the war (for the Romanians) the highest priority was to get back the Soviet occupied territory: Basarabia, Bukovina and Moldova. On July 16th, in the morning, the Romanian 1st Armored Division was set to move towards Chisinau. At about 5.00 AM the Soviet 47th Tank Division spots the Romanians. They collide in a big tank battle with big losses on both sides.

And that concludes this update for now, stay tuned for more stuff coming your way!

To ensure that Carpathian Crosses is up to the standard we set for it, we have to test the maps and features with the usual amount of players you can find on public servers, meaning a full 32 slot server. Because of this, we are looking for up to 25 or more testers. To be a tester you should be able to answer the following questions with "yes":
1) Are you over 18 years old? 2) Are you willing to sign and be bound to a Non Disclosure Agreement? 3) Are you able to make it to the Euro testing sessions (which are every Monday 20 CET at the moment)? 4) Are you able to file bug reports in a way that they can be reproduced? 5) Are you able to give feedback in a professional way? 6) Can you invest 2-3 hours to testing for those sessions and another hour reporting bugs and giving feedback?
If this is the case, send a PM to ueber or post in the application section of our forums.
On a side note, we currently dont have a specific NA testing session. For the case we get more NA testers will will appoint an NA lead tester and get specific sessions organized.
We are really looking forward to have you new guys onboard!

It's been a while since our last update. You might have thought that we were not progressing, but the truth is quite the opposite. Our team hasn’t been stalling at all, and we are proud to announce that we have completed our Romanian player models. We have different variations available, ranging from summer weight uniforms to winter uniforms and tanker to mountain infantry. You might wonder how you’re going to distinguish these once you are deployed to the battlefield. The answer to that is the collar insignia and shoulder board insignia. Every variation will have different insignia to indicate rank and branch of service which is apparent in the screenshots below. We will also include plenty of headgear variations in order to accommodate various environmental settings in combat.
Since we are developing Carpathian Crosses for Red Orchestra: Ostfront, there has been a great deal of time spent on authenticating the field gear. As you can see, soldiers have the opportunity to wear glasses and they will all be wearing historically accurate ammunition pouches and holsters to match the weapon they are carrying. You can safely say that with the amount of variations possible, andrei313 and Polygon have given it their all.

You can find more detailed pictures of the Romanian soldiers here.
As you can see our Romanian tanker is ready for battle. You might wonder what enemies he will be facing, so let’s take a look at some early war Soviet armor. The T-26 was widely used in the early days on the Eastern Front, especially in the defense of Chisinau, where they played a significant role in trying to repel the invasion forces. Next to it, we see a BT-5 tank, a predecessor of the better known BT-7, which is also included in our modification. As you can see, our vehicle artist Sethodie did an excellent job of bringing these two to life for you to eventually experience in Carpathian Crosses.
If you can't get enough of tanks, check our other pictures.
Don't worry though, as an infantryman, you won't be totally defenseless against these tanks. To counter the tanks, you will find anti-tank grenades in Carpathian Crosses. When thrown correctly they can disable the tracks or even damage the tank. Since we're on the topic of weapons, we are also pleased to bring you the Romanian built Orita sub machine gun.

Naturally, all this stuff has to come to life somewhere, so let’s take a look at the battlefields. We would like to show you two of them at the moment. One is Nalchik, a city in the Caucasus Mountains that saw quite some action in World War 2. This battle takes place in the winter of 1942 and its located further East than any other battle in Carpathian Crosses. It is one of the bigger cities in its area and was to serve as a logical step to reach the vast oil fields in the east. The other battle we would like to show is the one for Usatovo, which is near the city of Odessa. It takes place in the small rural town of Usatovo, which was on the way during the Axis thrust towards the crucial sea port of Odessa.

Be sure to check the media page on our website to see all the screenshots that weren't shown in this update. There are around 30 new shots of all the items we talked about. However, we're not going to let you wait for another 2 months before we show you our work again. We are working on bringing you a media update just as big as this one in the near future; this one is just the beginning.
We would also like to stress that the face competition (get your face into the game) is still running. It doesn't matter if you have long hair, facial hair or glasses; everyone is more then welcome to enter. If you're wearing glasses however, you should take them off when you're taking the pictures. Haircuts or shaves will not be necessary, we can handle it.
Of course, we are always looking for more people to join us in our effort of portraying the Romanian army. There is always more than enough work to be done on a mod, so we are currently recruiting for the following positions.
3D Artist - Sufficient knowledge of 3DSMax/Maya/XSI, any of these will do, they all support the ActorX plugin needed to export the models, preferably Max. - Preferred: Past experience in weapon/vehicle modeling for games. - Optional: The ability to create your own textures/uvmaps.
Animator - The ability to make realistic human movements. - Sufficient knowledge of animating preferably in 3DSMax, but Maya could work too.
Texture Artist - A good knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and related applications. - An eye for detail and producing believable, high-quality textures.
Do you think you can handle it? Or do you simply want to improve your skill on a fun project? Or are you looking for a chance to put your work out there in the public eye? Then we could be just the team for you. We are a bunch of guys that are doing this to create something by a team effort. The work you produce can be put into your portfolio. Since Red Orchestra is made on the Unreal engine, your work will be exposed to an extensive community.

It has been quiet on the Carpathian Crosses front, but we are looking to keep you updated again. Ofcourse, we haven't been standing still all this time. In terms of media we've had soldiers, we've had tanks, we've had mortars, but something is still missing. How about, something that shoots 550 bullets a minute? Too bad it only has 20 of those in a magazine. But its accuracy pretty much makes up for that. The ZB-30 LMG is considered to be one of the best light machine guns. It was built by the Czechs and chambered with the 7.92mm rimless Mauser cartridge (also known as 8mm Mauser). The weapon has a wooden stock, pistol grip and integral bipod mount.
Enough talk, here we go:

Special thanks for this wonderful model go out to SethSoldier and his Battlegroup Frontlines mod.

We are featured on the frontpage of ROLadder! The guys over there conducted an interview with worluk, one of our lead developers. This interview is definetly worth a read, especially for those that are craving for a new update on what we're doing. It has been quiet on the Carpathian Crosses front, but will this be a sign of things to come? Be sure to check back regularly, or make yourself comfortable on our forums. You might pick up a sneak peak of what's going on!

Long time no update, but we think the following pics were worth waiting for.
We are proud to present you our Romanian Infantry model.
The model is shown with full field gear. The bread bag, canteen, gas mask pouch, entrenching tool along with the bayonet and the ammo pouches. To keep up with the high realism standards of Red Orchestra, we provide shoulder patches for every rank.
Enough with the talk already, here are the pictures.

Also don't forget about our Face Competition, which is still running! Carpathian Crosses is still hosting a contest for all of the Red Orchestra players out there! Our playermodels will require different faces and we want yours! There's a total of 15 slots available which can be filled up by you, the people. See our previous newspost for more information on the contest.

Carpathian Crosses is opening a contest for all of you Red Orchestra players out there: our playermodels will require different faces and we want yours! We have 15 slots to give out to the Red Orchestra community, therefore you are all invited to be made into a character for Carpathian Crosses, the mod for Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45.
However, this does take a little time and effort from your side. What do you have to do to win your face in the game? Well, simply take pictures of yourself, while following these rules:
1) The photographs need to be of the highest resolution possible, and preferably taken in overcast lighting conditions. This is needed to avoid shadows and highlights on your face. Just make sure it is not too extreme but the light is equally distributed across your face.
2) Make sure to zoom in on just the neck and head.
3) Take pictures of the front, side, rear, and top of your head.
4) We will need you to have your eyes shut. And a picture of your eye up close.
You can send your pictures, along with your Red Orchestra forum username (if you have one) to: facecomp@carpathiancrosses.com. We will personally judge all the entries - and the judges decisions are final. The winners will be based on a few criteria, which include:
Diversity - We do not want 15 people with black hair and a beard winning.
Picture Quality - No JPG distorted low resolution pictures.
So pick up your camera, and start taking pictures!

Well, you've seen the tanks. Now, just to show you that there will be something in Carpathian Crosses for tankers and infantry fans alike - we proudly present the Russian M-1939 mortar. Isn't she beautiful?
This was produced in large numbers and was standard kit in Russian infantry units up until 1943. It was also used, when captured, by German and Finnish forces and was later exported to China and Vietnam.
The mortar requires a crew of 2 experienced troops to operate effectively, throwing a 50mm HE round up to 800 metres. The skill comes in one crewman setting the angle (45 or 75 degrees) and judging the correct settings of the mechanism at the base, adjusting the power of the shell's launch, whilst his mate carries out range-finding and spotting duties.
In the hands of two skilled crewmen working together this mortar is a deadly addition to the RO arsenal.

And, as if that weren't enough, we bring you a few sneak peek of new weapon sounds and Romanian voice commands. We think the voice commands are great step in bringing Romania's role in the Ostfront to life. Many thanks to Vlad for the voice-actor work.
The three sounds below are the "We're burning!" tank alert, the artillery confirmation message and the 50mm mortar launch sound. No prizes for guessing which is which.

Some weeks have passed and its definitely time for an update.
People ask for early war tanks, we get them to you. People ask for variation, here we go.
Lets start with the oldest, ,the BT-7-1:

Ofcourse, only this one would be a little weak, so lets go one step further and check out the BT-7-1(U). The main difference with this "command" variant is the antenna mounted on the turret, and yes, this means you can use its radio...

And last but not least the strongest variant of this tank. The BT-7m, often called the BT-8. Key features of this tank are the conical turret and the stronger engine.

Since we are not planning to leave you that long without updates again, check back here soon.
